The next day, Allen and the guys show up at school in Jake’s new Jeep. They played rock-paper-scissors to decide who would have the honor of driving to school on the first day. Francisco will drive his new Camaro on day two, and Allen will drive his new Range Rover on day three.

Jake parks his jeep while Allen and Francisco check out the cliques hanging out in their familiar spots. Jake sees four guys he knows as the Party Boys crew. Among them are two popular Korean American DJs, Kevin Choi and Patrick Kim, who are break dancing and mixing hip-hop beats, K-Pop, EDM and old school rock and roll music, alongside their two Black American high school friends Troy Baxter and Carl Wilson. The Party Boys group like to breakdance in the middle of the quad while playing their latest mixes. Francisco waves at them and yells, “Thanks guys, we really loved your remix of Alice Cooper’s ‘School’s Out’!”

Jake daps his fist with the guys and says, “Classic stuff, bros.”

Kevin Choi happily replies, “You got it, brother. We have some exciting dope shit coming up with a mashup of BTS and Usher during lunch today.”

Allen smiles and says, “That’s cool.”

They continue walking and almost run into a group of popular girls who live close to Star Island. The girls stand close together, looking at their cell phones and texting each other without saying a word. Allen gestures to the girls, laughs and says to Jake and Francisco, “Look, the wannabe Star Island girls are telepathically communicating through their texts.”

Jake and Francisco laugh hysterically as one of the stuck-up girls look up at them for a second. Her face changes as she notices Jake’s pearly white teeth and the missing tooth replaced. She grins at him and yells, “Oh… my… gosh! Jake! You. Look. Hot!”

The other girls look up and notice that the guys look a lot trendier in their new clothes. The guys are wearing nice white dress shirts with colored argyle sweaters and gold watches. Allen wears his golden emerald ring.

The guys exude confidence as they continue to stroll across campus. A striking Punjabi girl eyes Jake and stops him. “Jake, you’re looking so gorgeous. I have no shame in my game. What’s your phone number?”

Jake smiles wide and replies, “I never knew you noticed me, Sonia. Sure, you can have my number.” They exchange phone numbers and then Jake runs to catch up with Allen and Francisco, who whoop and high-five him.

“Guys, this is definitely going to be a school year to remember,” Jake declares. The bell rings, and Jake and Francisco pair off to walk to their pre-algebra class together.

Francisco says to Allen, “We’ll probably need a tutor for math, bro. We don’t know a damn thing about geometry, calculus, or algorithms.”

Allen says, “No problem! I’ll help you guys if you want,” as he runs upstairs to his advanced history class on the second floor. Allen sits down in class and sees that Josh is taking the same class.
